Have you ever wondered why the Salukis have such a great home field advantage? The 710 Bookstore Dawg Pound is why. Our bark is heard throughout Saluki Stadium and SIU arena, making SIU one of the most intimidating places to play. As the students of Southern Illinois University, we support our Salukis year round in every sport. We stand and cheer on our team, win or lose. We are the Dawg Pound.
The 710 Bookstore Dawg Pound is a student-based organization that strives to spread Saluki Pride by increasing student awareness and attendance for all Saluki Athletic programs by working with Saluki Athletics to promote athletic events, as well as enhance the in game atmosphere. The Dawg Pound creates an intimidating atmosphere while promoting good sportsmanship at all Saluki Athletic events.
The Dawg Pound is the largest student organization on campus with over 1,000 students involved with school spirit initiatives on campus. The organization is run by a five person board that works very closely with Saluki Athletics (primarily the marketing staff) to ensure the students' voices are being heard. Members receive the official Dawg Pound t-shirt. The t-shirt entitles students to discounts and specials at participating local establishments and is also a rewards program where students receive benefits based on the number of events they attend during the year. Rewards include t-shirts, restaurant coupons, Saluki gear and more. Dawg Pound members also receive invitations to exclusive events during the year and have reserved seating at all home sporting events. 1. How do I join the Dawg Pound?
You can join the Dawg Pound by filling out the form on our website and bringing it to the Athletic Department (Lingle Hall 127).
2. What is the Dawg Pound?
The 710 Bookstore Dawg Pound is a student-based organization that strives to spread Saluki Pride by increasing student awareness and attendance for all Saluki Athletic programs by working with Saluki Athletics to promote athletic events, as well as enhance the in game atmosphere.
3. What are the benefits of being a Dawg Pound Member?
Benefits include free admission to all home athletic events, reserved seating at events in a general admission student section, official Dawg Pound t-shirt, invitations to members' only events during the year: pre-game events, meet and greets with the teams, away games, watch parties, and more, plus: attend athletic events to earn points towards free prizes.
4. How do I earn points?
Students can earn points by attending Saluki Athletic home sporting events, Dawg Pound meetings, and other Dawg Pound social events throughout the year. Additionally, members can earn bonus points by attending sporting events with body paint or creative signs. However, the signs should be kept clean and tasteful to promote good sportsmanship at all Saluki Athletic events.
5. What are the points used for?
The points will be used towards students earning rewards for events they attend during the 2011-2012 season. At the end of the season students at the top of the Leaderboard will be awarded Saluki Dawg Pound Book Scholarship to 710 Bookstore.
