This is the latest installment of our monthly feature called, "Ask the AD." If you have questions for Saluki Director of Athletics Mario Moccia, feel free to submit them by e-mail.
I agree with you about a clean, traditional look for the new arena floor, but wanted to give you an idea. When Oklahoma State refinished its court a few years ago, Mike Holder and his staff narrowed the design selection to several options. Those final selections were then put up on the website, and fans were allowed to vote on their favorite design. What do you think of that idea?
I think that is a very unique way to select the final look of the floor. I have asked Jason King to make contact with schools who have had new or renovated arenas over the last few years to gauge what they have done with their process. I am definitely in favor of internet surveys, and we might look to involve our fans in this specific process or others, prior to the completion of the graphics part of the process.
Is there a way to see seat numbers and sections prior to coming over to Lingle Hall for our seat selection date?
There have been many people just dropping by prior to their selection time to take a "sneak peek" at the board, which is certainly ok. We don't want to disrupt the individuals who are actually in seat selection, but so far, with one-fifth of the seat selection completed it has been just fine. You can also call 453-3148 and ask any specific questions on locations, and you will receive an answer immediately.
Finally, I consulted with Chet Savage, Associate AD for External, who is overseeing the seating procedure, and he recommends fans visit our new Seat Selection update page on the official website. Click on the white button on the front page for twice weekly updates on Mondays and Thursdays. There are seating maps of the new facilities there. Sections in both are numbered. The rows are lettered A-V in football and numbered in SIU Arena. As far as the seat numbers, if you are standing on the court and looking at a given section. Seat No. 1 is always on the left.
