CARBONDALE, Ill. - For only the fifth time in school history, the Saluki Athletic Scholarship Fund surpassed the $1 million plateau, Southern Illinois University announced today.
For Fiscal Year 2014, which ended on June 30, the fund-raising arm of Saluki Athletics took in $1,014,249 -- an increase of 20 percent over last year's total. The fund helps pay for scholarships for SIU's student-athletes, while providing special benefits to donors, such as priority seating, parking and post-season ticket opportunities.
"Our fund-raising total for the month of May was the highest on record and I think that reflects a growing excitement and commitment to the success of Saluki Athletics among our loyal fan base," said SASF Director Gabe Tippy.
In May, Tippy introduced several new ways for fans to increase their support, including the "110 Percent Club" and the "Take it to the Next Level" program. SASF members were encouraged to add an extra 10 percent to their annual SASF donation for 2014 or increase their donation to the next giving level.
Tippy said his office will continue to look for ways to enhance the scholarship fund during Fiscal Year 2015 and encouraged prospective new members to join the fund.
"As the excitement surrounding Saluki Athletics continues to build in the coming year, we encourage all of our current SASF members to ask family and friends to also support the Saluki Athletic Scholarship Fund and our student-athletes."
