CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University Director of Athletics Mario Moccia has been named the liaison to the NCAA's men's basketball committee, as well as a member of the governing body's four-person Administrative Committee.
These new responsibilities are an offshoot of Moccia's 2011 appointment to the NCAA Division I Championships/Sports Management Cabinet, for which he is serving a four-year term.
"It's beneficial for both Southern Illinois University and the Missouri Valley Conference to have a voice at the table as the NCAA shapes its policy initiatives regarding all NCAA-sponsored championship events," Moccia said. "It's a privilege to serve in these new capacities."
The Administrative Committee is a select group that includes one member from each of the subdivisions of Division I. Moccia represents the Football Championship Subdivision on the panel. The committee acts on behalf of the cabinet on matters of emergency nature, such as when a student-athlete's eligibility has been jeopardized and a championship competition is pending.
The Sports Management Cabinet oversees six committees and reports directly to the Division I Leadership Council regarding policy and legislative issues.
