CARBONDALE, Ill. - With the recent establishment and growth of the Saluki Athletic Scholarship Fund (SASF), SIU Athletics has added George Robinson as assistant director of athletic development.
Robinson will work with Tommy Bell, current director of athletic development, to continue the successful campaign to raise scholarship dollars for SIU student-athletes through the SASF, which was created to support the scholarship costs and program development of Saluki Athletics.
"It's exciting. The opportunity to work in development at SIU following my experiences with other University athletic departments, was too good an opportunity to pass up," said an excited Robinson.
"I'm looking forward to learning and assisting the athletic development office as its growth continues, and becoming a part of the SIU Foundation and its Southern at 150: Building Excellence through Commitment campaign. Southern Illinois is a program on the rise, and I want to help the coaches, student-athletes and staff become better equipped on the playing field and in the classroom."
Robinson comes to SIU from Virginia Tech, where he was the assistant director of marketing and promotions from August 2002 to October 2004.
Prior to Virginia Tech, Robinson also worked in college athletics for a year at University of Florida, where he was a marketing and promotions intern. Robinson also worked at Grambling State University, where he organized the Eddie Robinson Golf Classic.
"I'm ecstatic to have George on our staff. He gained a lot of experience in a short period of time in athletic administration, and possesses a great deal of creativity, which will assist us in the future growth of the SASF," added Bell.
