Mario Moccia addresses the group following lunch at the Grassy Lake Hunting Club in Jonesboro, Ill.

JONESBORO, Ill. - Southern Illinois University athletics held the Saluki Waterfowl Hunt Friday at the Grassy Lake Hunting Club.
A couple dozen hunters gathered at the club to take the opportunity to hunt ducks and geese, as well as enjoy a lunch with SIU Athletic Director Mario Moccia, head football coach Dale Lennon, assistant basketball coach Marcus Belcher and other members from Saluki athletics.
Moccia said funds gathered from the event will be used towards the Saluki Way project and that the new athletic facilities are as much as everyone's in the room and in the community as they are SIU's.
Lennon, who himself grew up hunting in North Dakota, talked about how the last time he hunted was in 1985. He got into coaching the very next year and hasn't had the time to hunt since.
Although Lennon was unable to partake in the hunt, as he had prior recruiting commitments, both he and those in attendance enjoyed the lunch and conversations they shared together.
Saluki Athletics has hosted the Waterfowl Hunt in each of the past three seasons and the tradition dates back to 1993.
