Scott Gierman

Position: Assistant Media Relations

Scott Gierman is in his first year as an Assistant Media Relations Director for Saluki Athletics. He is in charge of all publicity efforts for the Saluki baseball program.

Gierman joined SIU after eight years working in minor league baseball. He spent four years as media relations director and radio play-by-play announcer with the Southern Illinois Miners in Marion, Ill. Prior to his move to Southern Illinois, he spent three years in the same position with the Savannah Sand Gnats, a single-A affiliate of the New York Mets. Following the 2006 season, his first as the Gnats media relations director, Gierman received the honor of South Atlantic League Media Relations Director of the Year. He began his career in baseball with a communications and advertising internship with the triple-A Charlotte Knights.

A native of Griffith, Ind., Gierman earned his bachelor's degree from Indiana University with a major in sport communication and minors in business and telecommunications. He currently resides in Marion.
