    Gregory earned seven letters in track and cross country and set school records in the half mile and 880-yard run. After graduation, he became famous as a comedian working many of the nation's leading night clubs. Gregory also emerged as a human rights activist, authoring several books while working on the frontline in the 1960s during the civil rights era.
