    A native of Willard, Missouri, Lisa Cummins enjoyed immediate success at SIU as she was the secondary setter on the Salukis' 1982 team which posted a 22-14 record and finished third in the post-season conference tournament. As a sophomore, Lisa's 8.6 assists average was third best in the Gateway Conference and her .331 attack percentage was the league's best. She was credited with 40 or more assists in six matches and was honored by being named to the all-conference team. She also toured Japan and China with an Athletes in Action team that summer. In her third year at SIU, she was the only junior named to the all-conference team. The honor came as a result of Lisa finishing second in assists with an 8.25 average. In non-conference action, she had an incredible 78 assists in an early-season marathon match with Illinois-Chicago. And, she capped the school year off by being named to the second team Co-SIDA Academic All-America team following SIU's 22-9 season. After her first three seasons with the Salukis, Lisa had collected 2,183 assists and again toured with an Athletes in Action team. As a senior, Lisa added 1,066 assists to her three-year total and finished with 3,249, a mark which held as SIU's all-time best until 1998 when bettered. At the time of Lisa's induction into SIU's Sports Hall of Fame, however, it was second best in school history. As a team in her senior season, the Salukis were 26-11 and tied for the league title. Her total of 136 matches played is best ever at SIU as is her total of 482 games played. Among other honors received were a first team GTE Academic All-American spot, as well at SIU's Outstanding Leader Athlete award and the Virginia Gordon Award in 1986.
