    Irene Haworth Lacy was one of Southern Illinois University's top all-around gymnasts. A native of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, she was a member of the Canadian Olympic team in 1964, the World University Games team in 1961 and 1966 and the Pan American Games team in 1963 (winning a silver medal in Brazil). The Salukis were unbeaten and national champions during each of her three years of competition at SIU. She le the Salukis to AAU, U.S. Gymnastics Federation and collegiate national titles. She captured the Canadian Senior Nationals title in 1966, was named to the first All-America women's gymnastics team and received Sports Illustrated magazine's Award of Merit. She was co-captain of the 1965 SIU team and won national titles in the all-around and three other events.
