    Rushing was one of the greatest all-around athletes in school history, earning 13 letters. He made the All-Conference team in football in 1955, 1956 and 1957 and was a conference champion in wrestling in 1959, advancing to the NCAA quarterfinals that year. He played 10 seasons in the NFL, including stints with the Chicago Bears and St. Louis Cardinals.
