    Shannon was an All-American running back who rushed for 1,805 yards during his three-year career. He set a school record with 249 yards versus Northern Illinois, a mark that stood for 20 years. Shannon was the CFL Rookie of the Year in 1959 and went on to play three years in the NFL as a safety for the Los Angeles Rams.
