    Tracey Terrell, a four-time AIAW All American and four-time State champion, helped key Southern's rise to prominence in women's swimming & diving. As a freshman, the Miami, FL, native scored Southern's only team points at '79 Nationals, finishing 12th in three-meter diving at the University of Pittsburgh, where she eventually transferred for her sophomore season. As a junior, the talented redhead returned to Carbondale and copped All America honors on both one and three-meter spring board, placing 12th and ninth respectively. Her senior season, Terrell had a ninth place showing in one-meter competition as the Salukis soared to a third place finish--their highest ever--at Nationals. Terrell dominated Illinois AIAW State diving, claiming one-meter titles three times (1979, '81, '82) and the three-meter crown once ('81). She established three State records in the process. One of the nation's premier platform divers, Terrell was a finalist in the 1979 and '80 AAU Outdoor Nationals, Overall, the stylish standout won 22 times for the Salukis in diving over three seasons. A Physical Education major with a 3.4 GPA, Terrell was the recipient of the '81 Virginia Gordon Award and '82 Outstanding Leader-Athlete Award at SIUC.
