Tom Koutsos became the Missouri Valley Football Conference's all-time leading rusher. He broke the record in the fourth quarter of this game during a 35-yard run. The record setting run perhaps typified Koutsos' rushing style, as he ran over numerous tacklers. It was the third-longest run of his career. Koutsos, playing five days after his 23rd birthday, rushed for 153 yards and three touchdowns. Wearing goggles in the second half, after having his contact lenses knocked out in the first half, "Touchdown Tommy" rushed for 97 yards in the third and fourth quarters.
