Dear Saluki Supporters, On behalf of the Southern Illinois University Department of Athletics and our 350 student-athletes, thank you for your continuing support of the Saluki Athletic Scholarship Fund. It is because of your loyalty and dedication that we are able to maintain our longstanding athletic tradition. Each year, it is our goal to build on this rich tradition of success on the playing field and in the classroom. The 2006-07 academic year was among the best in school history. Five teams reached NCAA postseason play (football, men's basketball, women's basketball, softball and women's golf). We finished 77th in the annual Directors' Cup standings out of 284 schools and ranked ahead of all of our Missouri Valley Conference peers. More importantly, our student-athletes had a banner year in the classroom, with 50 earning academic all-conference honors, 12 garnering academic all-district laurels, plus three Academic All-Americans. Our women's basketball, women's cross country, softball, men's swimming & diving, women's swimming & diving, men's tennis, women's track & field and volleyball teams were all recognized nationally for their overall team GPAs. The 2007-08 academic year has seen great progress on the Saluki Way facility project. The students of Southern Illinois University have shown their support of the project through the payment of student fees and the city of Carbondale has pledged $20M to the project. 360 Architecture of Kansas City, Missouri has been selected as the lead architect on the project and they are currently finalizing drawings for a new football stadium, retrofitting of SIU Arena as well as an auxiliary building that will house locker rooms, meeting rooms and office space for the Saluki men's and women's basketball programs as well as the football program. As we prepare for 2008 and the challenges ahead of us, please know that we can only take advantage of those opportunities with your continuing and increasing support. In addition to preparing Saluki student-athletes for a successful life after they leave SIU, you also have the opportunity to receive several benefits through your generosity. SASF members are eligible for priority seating and parking for football and men's basketball as well as first priority for post-season tournament tickets and special events. Details outlining all of the benefits of membership are included in the following pages. Again, thank you for your ongoing support of Southern Illinois University and the Department of Athletics.
