CARBONDALE, Ill. - Hannah Pinion broke the MVC Championship record for the 200-yard individual medley during the preliminaries, and she had to re-break that record in the final to win the event. Pinion led the Salukis, who are in third place after one day of the Championship.
Pinion was the lone win for the Salukis on the day for the Salukis, but Southern placed second in every other event except for the 200 freestyle relay. Pamela Benitez came in second in the 500-yard freestyle, her first loss in any event since the second race of her career. Kirsten Groome came in sixth, and Jennifer Kwok also scored in the event.
Luisa Silveira followed Pinion's record-breaking race with a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (24.23). Rachael Barry, Holly Johnson, Marcella Otto and Carly Dvorak also scored in the event for SIU.
The Salukis placed second in the last event of the night, the 400 medley relay. Missouri State won the event and broke an MVC record with a 3:44.24.
