LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Southern Illinois men's and women's swimming and diving teams lost meets against Missouri and Kentucky on Saturday. Four Saluki individuals posted top times, and the 200 freestyle relay also posted the top time on the day.
"The score does not reflect the fight from both the men and the women," head coach Rick Walker said. "The women were close in most races and the men stole the last relay from Kentucky which left a hush in a jubilant home crowd. I am proud of our teams today."
Kirsten Groome got things started in the third event of the day with a win in the 1000 freestyle. Groome also finished second overall in the 500 freestyle. Matt Parsons picked up the first win of the day for the men in the 200 fly, beating Missouri's Mack Darragh by .01 seconds.
Justin Wolfe posted the top time in the 100 buttefly, and Matt Parsons finished third in the event. In the final event of the day, the Saluki men posted the top time in the 200 freestyle relay. Justin Wolfe, Matt Parsons, Juan Arbelaez and Shaun Wolfe teamed up to post the top time, which was the 10th fastest 200 free relay time in the NCAA this year.
The men and women are back in action Nov. 16-18 at the Tennessee Invitational.
