AUSTIN, Texas - Four Salukis swam on the first day of the USA Swimming AT&T Winter Nationals, with Till Pallmann earning his way into the C Final in the 500-yard freestyle to lead the group.
"This was hard, timing wise, for our athletes, and they answered the challenge," head coach Rick Walker said. "They came from a regular mid-year meet to Thanksgiving to a huge national meet, and they are swimming great times. We're tickled to death that Till was able to swim his way into the finals tonight and perform so well."
Till Pallmann swam the 12-fastest time in the finals of the 500-yard freestyle (4:25.88), winning the C Final. He swam three seconds faster than his preliminary time and was the only Saluki to make the finals on the first day of the three-day competition.
Right after swimming his preliminary heat for the 500-yard freestyle Thursday morning, Pallmann turned around and swam the 200-yard individual medley in 1:51.59. Calvin Kolar also swam in the event for SIU, swimming 1:54.42.
Hannah Pinion competed in the 200-yard individual medley, finishing with a time of 2:07.03. Jared Bradd swam the 50-yard freestyle, finishing in 21.02.
Day two starts tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. with the preliminaries. A list of events and Saluki competitors can be found in the chart below.
