CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois swimming and diving team hosts Evansville on Saturday at the Dr. Edward J. Shea Natatorium in the SIU Rec Center. The meet is set to begin at 1 p.m. and admission is free.
The meet also marks Senior Day for the Salukis, and each of SIU's eight seniors will be recognized before the meet. The teams will compete in 13 events--11 swimming events and two diving events--in what will be the last dual meet before the men's and women's respective conference championships.
"We want to come out and have fun and honor our seniors in this last meet before the conference meets," head coach Rick Walker said. "At the same time, we need to be very focused on Evansville, or they will come in here and beat us."
The Salukis traveled to Evansville in this season's first dual meet, with both the men and women winning. The women topped the Aces in a tight one, 124-119, while the men cruised to a 149-73 win.
The women are gearing up for the Missouri Valley Conference Championships, which SIU will host from Feb. 14-16. The men, who compete in the Mid-American Conference, are also hosting their conference championships on March 7-9. Both meets will be held in the Dr. Edward J. Shea Natatorium.
