CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois women's swimming and diving team wrapped up the final preliminary session of the Missouri Valley Conference Championship on Saturday afternoon at the Dr. Edward J. Shea Natatorium in the SIU Rec Center.
The Salukis started the preliminary session off on fire, sending four swimmers to the A Final and three to the B Final of the 200-yard backstroke. Kristy Hinkle (2:02.51) with the top time for the Salukis at third. Sarah James (2:02.82) and Ella Otto (2:03.24) finished fifth and sixth, respectively.
In the 100-yard freestyle, Southern Illinois will be represented by Shailey Brumley (52.24) who secured the seventh fastest time in the event and Luisa Silveira (52.27) who will be the eighth and final swimmer in the A Final. Holly Johnson (52.33) just missed the cut for the A Final and will be the top-seed in the B Final.
The Finals session starts at 4 p.m., and a ceremony will take place immediately prior to the meet. The session will include all of today's preliminary events as well as the 1,650-yard freestyle, three-meter dive and 400-yard freestyle relay.
