CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois men's and women's swimming and diving programs were both honored as Scholar All-America Teams by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America. The honor is given to programs who post a team GPA of 3.0 or higher.
"Our athletes continue to amaze me," head coach Rick Walker said. "They put in so much work in the pool. Then, I see something like this, and I'm reminded that they're also near the top of the country academically. I couldn't be more proud of these young men and women."
The men's team has a cumulative team GPA of 3.33, which is eight-best nationally among Division I swimming and diving programs. The women's team has a 3.36 GPA, which is tied for 39th nationally. Both programs have raised their GPAs by nearly a tenth of a point from last year.
The men conclude the team season with the MAC Championship from March 7-9. Southern Illinois is hosting the Championship, which will be held in the Dr. Edward J. Shea Natatorium in the SIU Rec Center.
