CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois is set to host the 2013 Mid-American Championship at the Dr. Edward J. Shea Natatorium in the SIU Rec Center. The three-day, six-session meet starts Thursday with an 11 a.m. preliminary session and concludes on Saturday with a 7 p.m. finals heat.
Each day of the meet starts with a preliminary session at 11 a.m., followed by a finals session at 7 p.m. Southern posted a third-place finish last year at the MAC Championship, which included several milestones. Head Coach Rick Walker earned 2012 MAC Coach of the Year honors after his team broke three school records and two Championship records at the meet.
Southern's men's program is in its fourth year as a member of the Mid-American Conference. In its inaugural year as a member of the conference, SIU finished fifth and has finished third in the seven-team conference in each of the last two seasons.
Southern went 2-1 against MAC competition in the regular season, posting two wins over Evansville and one loss to Missouri State. Ball State, Buffalo, Eastern Michigan and Miami (OH) will also compete in the Championship.
Results will be posted after each event at the MAC Championship Central HERE. Admission to the Championship is $30 for an all-session pass for adults or $20 for students. Single session tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students.
