CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois men's and women's swimming and diving programs earned Scholar All-America honors from the College Swimming Coaches Association of America for the fall 2013 semester.

The women's team posted an impressive 3.55 GPA in the fall semester, which tied Grand Canyon University for the second-best GPA in the country, trailing only Alabama. The men's team posted a 3.36 GPA to earn recognition, tying for the fifth-best GPA in the country. SIU combined to tie for the No. 1 spot in all of college swimming.

The Team Scholar All-American award is presented to college and university swimming and diving teams, who have achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

"I am so proud of the prestige this brings our University and the credit lies at the feet of our athletes who aspire to bring pride to everything they do," said head coach Rick Walker. "Our academic staff is second to none and our administration backs up the talk of academics being first priority. This is great for our program, department and University."
