    CARBONDALE, Ill. — Southern Illinois swimmer Shailey Brumley has been named a Capital One Academic All-District 5 First-Team selection.

    A junior exercise science major with a 4.0 GPA, Brumley earns the first Academic All-District honor of her career. Her First-Team designation makes her a candidate for Academic All-America, which will be announced later this month.

    Brumley earned First-Team All-MVC honors at the 2013 MVC Swimming and Diving Championships. She was part of the school-record-setting 200-yard freestyle relay team that won the MVC title. The Keller, Texas, native scored for SIU in all three of her events at the MVC Championships.

    An member of the MVC Scholar-Athlete Team, Brumley earned the Valley’s Elite 18 Award for having the top GPA in the conference among swimmers competing in A finals at the 2013 MVC Championships.
