CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois University swimming & diving team opens its 2005-06 season Saturday, Oct. 22 at the University of Evansville. The meet is the first of 13 for the Salukis this season. SIU returns 34 letterwinners from last year's squad, adding 12 newcomers.
It is the first meet of the season for both teams. The Salukis dominated the Purple Aces in both dual meets last season.
The women's team beat Evansville 192-49 at Evansville before beating UE again 150-83 in Carbondale.
The men's team won 182.5-53.5 in the first meet, then won again 149-66 later in the season.
"On the women's side, we want to see several events and just see where we are. In training we have been gearing up for competition, now we want to shift towards focusing on competition," said SIU Head Coach Rick Walker.
"On the men's side, we are smaller in numbers, so I want to see if our strength is going to hold up. Again, the biggest thing for our athletes will be to shift gears from training and getting into shape, and turning that into faster performances while racing," said Walker.
Action is set to begin at 12 p.m., in Evansville, Ind. Results can be found at www.SIUSalukis.com.
