    CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois swimming and diving program is set to host Kentucky and Missouri in its first tri-meet of the season on Thursday and Friday at the Dr. Edward J. Shea Natatorium. The meet will begin on Thursday at 6 p.m. and continue Friday morning at 10 a.m.

    Southern is coming off a season opening sweep of Evansville where the team won a combined 15 of 26 events. The Saluki men downed UE, 150-87, while the women cruised to a 138-105 victory.

    Senior Pamela Benitez took first in three events at Evansville including the 1000-, 500- and 200-yard freestyles on the way to her first MVC Swimmer of the Week award.

    Till Pallmann, Andrew Spencer, Dusan Vukobrat and Eric Sparks teamed up to take the 400-yard medley with a time of 3:30.25, while Oleg Rabota won the 200-yard freestyle (1:42.77).

    Saluki divers had no problem at Evansville as Kegan Skelton swept the one- (284.40) and three-meter dives (256.75). On the women's side Cheri Zhang (308.80), Esther Chen (278.85) and Brittany Weigel (232.65) took the top three spots in the one-meter dive.

    Looking at Missouri
    Missouri finished 14th at both the men's and women's NCAA Championships last season. The Mizzou men finished in fifth place at the SEC Championships, while the women finished in eighth.

    Looking at Kentucky
    The UK men are coming off a 22nd-place national finish in 2013. The Kentucky men and women both finished ninth at the SEC Championships last season.
