Swimmers prepare for the USA Swimming Winter Championships

    AUSTIN, Texas - Eight swimmers and two relay teams have qualified for the USA Swimming AT&T Winter Championships, put on by USA Swimming. The national meet runs from Nov. 29 through Dec. 1 and includes some of the top swimmers in the world, including Ryan Lochte.

    The three-day event will feature preliminary rounds at 9 a.m. CT each morning and finals rounds at 5 p.m. each night. To watch the event via video stream, click HERE and choose the corresponding session.

    The Salukis start the meet off right from the first event. The men's 200-yard freestyle relay team is seeded ninth in the meet's first event. In the first individual event for the men, Till Pallmann will kick off his weekend with the 500-yard freestyle.

    Hannah Pinion will be the first women's swimmer to compete for SIU when she swims in the 200-yard individual medley. On the men's side in the same event, Thomas Defay, Till Pallmann and Calvin Kolar will all compete. To round out the first day, Jared Bradd will compete in the 50-yard freestyle.

    On the second day of the meet, Pinion will swim her second event of the meet with the 400-yard individual medley. Pinion is the defending Missouri Valley Conference champion in the 200- and 400-yard individual medley. Later in the day, Pamela Benitez will see her first action with the 200-yard freestyle. Pallmann and Rabota will swim the event on the men's side.

     

     

    Calvin Kolar will swim the 100-yard breaststroke. To round out the second day, Isabela Castro and Rabota will swim in the 100-yard backstroke.

    On the final day of competition, Benitez will swim the mile, the 1,650-yard freestyle. Benitez is seeded 19th in the event, the highest seed for any Saluki individual in the meet. Rabota will swim the 200-yard backstroke. Bradd and Pallmann will swim the 100-yard freestyle. Kolar will swim the 200-yard breaststroke. Castro will swim the 200-yard butterfly and the Salukis will close the meet with the 400-yard freestyle relay.
