Dan Digman

Last updated on Dec. 15, 2011 Dan Digman is in his sixth season coaching the Saluki pole vaulters and javelin throwers. Digman also serves as an assistant coach for cross country. For the past three seasons under Digman, Miracle Thompson has set and bested her own school records in the pole vault for both the indoor and outdoor seasons. In 2010, Thompson earned all-MVC honors in both indoor and outdoor competition. Digman has also coached two Top 10 record holders in the men's pole vault, including 2009 and 2010 NCAA Regional Qualifier Cody Doerflein. Digman led Doerflein to a fourth place finish at the 2009 USA Jr. National Championship in the pole vault, earning him Junior All-American honors. During the 2010-11 Digman coached three All-Missouri Valley Conference performers in the pole vault and javelin. In the javelin, Digman had two men in the Top five at the 2009 MVC Championships and coached Toni Whitfield to an all-conference performance at the 2008 and 2010 MVC Championships. Digman has also assisted head cross country coach Matt Sparks with the men's and women's cross country teams. Specifically, Digman helps with developing up and coming athletes and with day-to-day operations of the program. Digman, a Wadsworth, Ohio native, came to SIU from the University of Akron where he was a two-time All-Mid-American Conference performer in the pole vault and a 2006 all-conference honoree in the javelin. The 2005-06 men's track and field team captain assisted with the women's vault program at Akron and was also a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Council. Digman earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary Education at Akron and a master's degree in Sport Management at SIU. Digman and his wife, Claire, reside in Carbondale with their daughter, Nora.
