Stuart automatically qualifies for NCAA Indoor Nationals

    CARBONDALE, Ill. - Bianca Stuart automatically qualified for NCAA Indoor Nationals, as Southern Illinois University collected three individual titles and 15 top-five finishes at the SASF Invitational Friday.

    Stuart, a senior from Nassau, Bahamas, advances to indoor nationals for the fourth time in her career. She won the women's long jump with a career-best and school record 21-00.50 (6.41m) on her second jump.

    SIU was also strong in the women's weight throw, placing in each of the first five spots. Sasha Leeth provisionally qualified and won the event with a career-best throw of 62-01.75 (18.94m). Rickael Roach (60-08.50, 18.50m), Jeneva McCall (60-05.75, 18.43m), Gwen Berry (59-05.00, 18.11m) and Olga Ciura (54-01.75, 16.50m) rounded out the top-five.

    Other top-five showings for the women included Judeka Adams (5th in long jump - 18-02.25, 5.54m) and Miracle Thompson (5th in pole vault - 10-11.75, 3.35m)

    On the men's side, SIU was equally impressive in the weight throw, securing four top-five finishes. Joe Paradiso was first with a career-best 60-04.50 (18.40m), while Ryan Shumaker (56-11.50, 17.36m) followed in third, Thomas Smith (56-02.00, 17.12m) took fourth and J.C. Lambert (55-09.75, 17.01m) placed fifth.

    Cody Doerflein (3rd in pole vault - 15-07.00, 4.75m), Tim Robberstad (t5th in pole vault - 14-01.25, 4.30m) and Trenton McKinney (5th in long jump - 23-07.50, 7.20m) also turned in solid performances for the men.



    The SASF Invitational resumes Saturday at 10 a.m.
