CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Saluki track and field lead in both men's and women's team scores after taking five of six event titles on Day One of the SIU Invitational at the SIU Recreation Center.

Southern's first title of the day came in the women's weight throw. SIU occupied six of the top ten spots, including three in the top-five. Senior Kim Fortney won the event with her personal best launch of 20.04m (65-09.00) -- which, as of now, moves Fortney up from 21st to 18th nationally.

Sophomores Sophia Lozano (second, 19.44m/63-09.50) and DeAnna Price (fourth, 18.64m/61-02.00) rounded out Southern's contingent in the top-five.

Sophomore Bradley Sauer, current MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Week, continued his reign of dominance in the men's weight throw with his fourth event win this season -- the fifth consecutive occurrence this season he's been the highest collegiate finisher. Sauer's winning bomb of 20.97m (68-09.75) currently ranks fourth all-time at SIU and -- as of now -- moves him up from eighth to third nationally in the weight throw.

Curtis Wideman (third, 18.63m/61-01.50) and Brian Cooper (fourth, 17.34m/56-10.75) both recorded personal bests for the Salukis in the weight throw.

Southern swept the long jump for the first time this season with clutch performances from Saluki upperclassmen Eric Reeves and Sarah Rautio.

Reeves posted a personal best jump of 7.22m (23-08.25) for his second long jump victory of the season. Junior Dougie Palacious (7.05m/23-01.75) gave SIU a one-two punch in the event with his second-place finish.

Rautio bested her PR by over a foot in the women's long jump with her winning leap of 5.78m (18-11.75). Sophomore Lauren Cheadle also pushed her personal best by nearly a foot with her fourth-place lunge of 5.57m (18-03.25). Cheadle has placed no worse than sixth in her first three collegiate long jumps.

Ryan Sidwell took home the final win for Southern in the men's pole vault, eclipsing 4.75m (15-07.00) for the victory. Fellow Salukis Alex Lietz (second, 4.60m/15-01.00) and John Baughman (tied for third, 4.60m/15-01.00) also finished in the top-three.

Day Two of the SIU Invitational begins at 10 a.m. Saturday with the remainder of the field events, with the track portion beginning at 10:30 a.m.
