CHARLESTON, Ill. -- Saluki track and field came away with three event titles in the eight events it competed in at the EIU Friday Night Special on Friday night at the Lantz Fieldhouse.

SIU's three victories came in the throwing events, which included two impressive career performances on the male side.

Sophomore Josh Freeman continued on his torrid pace this season with yet another career-best in the shot put, which he won with a personal best of 19.43m (63-09.00). His newest mark shatters his own SIU all-time indoor record he set on Jan. 25 by seven inches, and currently ranks as the 12th-best throw in the country in 2014. Freeman also set new Friday Night Special and Lantz Fieldhouse records with his winning distance, which were previously held by former Salukis J.C. Lambert and John Smith, respectively.

Junior Curtis Wideman had a similarly strong performance in the weight throw, which he won with a personal best throw of 20.72m (67-11.75). This latest mark improves on his standing at fifth all-time at SIU and now jumps into 16th on the national collegiate list in 2014 -- which would secure him a spot at the national meet if the season were to end today.

Fellow junior Sophia Lozano completed the Saluki sweep in the weight throw on the women's side. Lozano, who owns the top throw in the Missouri Valley Conference and the 14th-best throw nationally in 2014, threw 20.04m (65-09.00) for victory.

Southern also had an a strong outing in the women's pole vault, where the four Salukis in competition each posted personal bests that rank on SIU's all-time top-ten list. Freshman Katie Trupp earned a runner-up finish with her new PR of 3.87m (12.08-25), which is good for second all-time at SIU and fourth in the MVC in 2014. Trupp was followed by Cara Engel (tied for eighth, 3.67m/12-00.50, tied for third all-time), Caselyn Harding (tenth, 3.67m/12-00.50, tied for third all-time) and Kacy Murphy (14th, 3.37m/11-00.75, fifth all-time) -- who each posted PRs.

Saluki track and field now has one week to prepare for the Missouri Valley Conference Indoor Championships on March 1-2 in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
