Track and Field teams undefeated in team duals at SEMO Relays

    CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. - The Southern Illinois track and field teams won six events and finished in the top three 24 times at the SEMOtion Relays hosted by Southeast Missouri State Friday and Saturday.

    The Saluki men and women went undefeated in dual action. The women won one meet title en route to sweeping the seven-team meet in head-to-head action scored at the conclusion of competition. The men's field consisted of eight teams, Southern taking five meet titles and duals over all seven teams.

    The men's 4x100-meter relay of Brandon Deloney, Brady Hammon, Antoine Jennings and Stevie Warren won a meet title in 41.85. Warren and Deloney went on to finish one, two in the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. Warren ran 10.85 for first in the 100 and 21.50 for second in the 200. Deloney ran 10.87 for second in the 100 and 21.31 for first in the 200, also a regional qualifying mark.

    Jeff Schirmer also picked up a meet title for the Salukis running 3:55.56 in the 1500-meter run for the victory. Greg McBride finished third in 3:59.29.

    Brenton Siemons picked up the final meet title of the day for the Salukis throwing 57-01.50. The senior also finished second in the hammer with a toss of 196-09.

    Other top-three finishes in the throws for the men included a second-place finish in the javelin for Trevor Poore (172-03) and third-place finishes for Jake Dieters (162-11) in the discus and Thomas Smith (169-09) in the javelin. Poore also jumped 6-02.75 in the high jump for third-place.

    On the women's side, Brittany Riley won the lone meet title for the women in the hammer with a toss of 222-08. Riley also finished second in the discus (150-04) and fourth in the shot put (44-11.50).

     

     

    Sasha Leeth finished third in the hammer with a 172-08 effort. Mikeya Nicholson also picked up a second-place finish in the triple jump with a final leap of 39-05.25.

    In running events, Meredith Hayes (14.53) and Terri Counts (14.59) finished second and third in the 100 hurdles. Toni Whitfield added a second-place finish in the 800 in 2:16.36.

    Megan Hoelscher and Emily Toennies crossed the finish line second and third in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Hoelscher ran 11:09.05, while Toennies crossed in 11:19.72. Tredene Davis finished third in the 400 hurdles in 1:02.515, while Kendra Deck finsihe fourth in a close 1:02.518.

    The Salukis return to action April 12 when they travel to the Ole Miss Invitational.
