Deiters earns All-America honors during first day at NCAA Finals

    CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois senior Jake Deiters earned second-team All-America honors with an 11th place finish in the discus during the first day of the NCAA Track and Field Championships Wednesday in Des Moines, Iowa.

    Deiters posted a throw of 177-06 to finish two spots shy of the finals and three spots from earning first-team All-America. Nonetheless, the Breese, Ill., native earned All-America accolades in the event for the second consecutive year to close out his Saluki Career.

    SIU still has four athletes set to compete for national titles at Drake Stadium through the end of the week.
