BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -- Senior Zach Dahleen and former Saluki Jeff Schirmerran in the Gladstein Invitational at Indiana University on Friday while the rest of the Saluki track and field team travelled north for the Illini Classic in Champaign, Ill., on Saturday.
Dahleen participated in the 3000m race for the first time this season, placing 8th out of 11 runners with a time of 8:19.23.
Former Saluki, three-time All-American and current SIU track and field director of operations Jeff Schirmerwon the 5000m race with a time of 14:28.46. Schirmer's mark was 21 seconds ahead of second place finisher, Joshua Mirth of Hillsdale College.
Meanwhile, the rest of the Salukis headed north for the one-day Illini Classic. After the Saluki Open last week, 13 Salukis have broken into the top-50 in the nation in their respective events -- including seven who rank in the top-16 who would go to nationals if the season were to end today.
The Illini Classic will start with the field events at 9 a.m., and will be followed by the running events at 11:15 a.m.
