ALBUQUERQUE -- Four former Saluki track and field stars competed at the U.S. Track and Field Indoor Championships, including thrower Gwen Berry-- who won her second-straight weight throw national title on Saturday.
Berry, the 2013 U.S. weight throw champion and a 2010 All-American in the hammer throw, took her second national title in as many years on a winning throw of 23.82m (78-01.75). Behind Berry was fellow former Saluki Jeneva McCall, who finished third for the second year in a row at 23.16m (76-00.00). Berry and McCall own the top-two marks in the world in 2014.
On the men's side, SIU was represented by five-time All-American and 2012 NCAA weight throw runner-up J.C. Lambert. Lambert finished as the runner-up in the weight throw with a launch of 23.05m (75-07.50), a season-best for Lambert that currently ranks as the third-best in the country and the fourth-best worldwide in 2014.
Malaikah Love also competed, finishing eighth in the triple jump at 12.88m (42-03.25).
