Track and Field sends six athletes to NCAA Indoor Championships

    CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois track and field teams will send six athletes to the NCAA National Indoor Championships in four events, the NCAA released Monday night.

    The men's team will send J.C. Lambert in the weight throw. The sophomore is ranked ninth in the event with a season-best 69-02 (21.08m) throw.

    The women's team, ranked 16th in the country, will send five athletes to the championships in just three events, including four in the weight throw.

    Jeneva McCall, Gwen Berry, Sasha Leeth and Rickael Roach are all ranked in the top-13 in the weight, led by McCall, ranked third with an automatic qualifying mark of 70-00.25 (21.34m). Leeth (68-02.25, 20.78m), Berry (67-02.25, 20.48m) and Roach (66-06, 20.27) rank fifth, 10th and 13th respectively.

    McCall and Berry will also compete in the shot put. McCall is ranked sixth with an automatic mark of 55-11.75 (17.06m) and Berry is ranked 18th at 53-05.75 (16.30m).

    Malaikah Love will compete in the pentathlon, ranked 17th with 3953 points.

    The Salukis will compete at the championships March 12-13 in Fayetteville, Ark.
