CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois track and field head coach Connie Price-Smith was named an assistant coach of the USA National Team to compete at the 2006 IAAF World Cup in Athens, Greece. She will be in charge of the throwers competing at Athens Olympic Stadium, Sept. 16-17.
According to the USA Track and Field website, the team is composed of the highest placing finisher in each final at the 2006 AT&T USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in late June. If those athletes choose not to compete, the next finisher may represent the USA National Team. Saluki thrower Brittany Riley placed ninth at the AT&T Championships.
"I'm looking forward to this experience," Price-Smith said. "I'm excited to work with the high caliber staff and athletes. Many of the coaches have competed at this level so it will be great to work with the team and place some athletes at the top of the meet."
