CARBONDALE, Ill. - The Southern Illinois track and field teams will open the 2010-11 season this Friday, Dec. 3, at the SIU Rec Center, when they host the Saluki Fast Start.
A total of 23 teams will be competing at the meet, which will open at 11:30 a.m. with the women's pole vault. The running events are scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. with the women's 60m prelims.
"It will be exciting to see everybody come out and perform at their best," said head coach Connie Price-Smith. "They've been working really hard during the fall and now it's time to come out and show how much training's been useful."
The field of teams will include a few high-caliber programs, including Louisville, South Florida, Belmont, and Division II power Lincoln (Mo.).
"It's always nice when you have competitors who come in that are at a high level," Price-Smith said. "It makes the meet more competitive and makes everybody more excited about the meet."
After a highly successful 2009-10 indoor campaign, indoor All-Americans J.C. Lambert, Malaikah Love, and Jeneva McCall will look to build off that success in 2010-11. All three combined to win five MVC indoor titles at last year's MVC Indoor Championships.
At last year's Saluki Fast Start, SIU captured 15 event titles and six NCAA provisional marks.
