CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois high jumper Kenya Culmer has been named the Collegiate Female Field Athlete of the Year by the Bahamas Association of Athletic Associations.

A sophomore from Nassau, Bahamas, Culmer was honored at the BAAA's 2011 awards luncheon December 18 in Nassau.

Culmer earned All-Missouri Valley Conference honors in the high jump during the Saluki track and field team's 2011 outdoor season in addition to qualifying for the NCAA West Regional in the event. Her season-best jump of 5-08.00 at the Vanderbilt Invitational is tied for the sixth-best outdoor mark in school history and the best since 2003.

Culmer opened the 2011-12 indoor season December 3 by taking the high jump title at the Saluki Fast Start with a career-best leap of 5-08.50, which ranks third in school history and is the highest indoor mark by a Saluki since 2002.
