Cross Country teams earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Team awards

    NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Southern Illinois men's and women's cross country teams have been named 2009 U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Cross Country All-Academic Teams.

    In order to qualify, a team must have competed and compiled a team score at an NCAA Regional Championship in the 2009 season and have a minimum 3.0 grade point average as a team.

    The Saluki men, who finished second in the Missouri Valley Conference and fifth overall at the NCAA Midwest regional, earned a 3.5 GPA as a team. SIU joins MVC opponents Creighton, Drake and Indiana State on the list of 135 Division I opponents.

    The Saluki women, who carry a 3.73 team GPA to rank fifth in the country, finished sixth at the MVC Championships. They join Missouri State, Bradley, Creighton, Drake, Illinois State, Indiana State, Evansville and Wichita State on the list of 176.
