ST. LOUIS -- Sophomore Sadie Darnell was named the Missouri Valley Conference Women's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the week of September 25, the conference announced Tuesday.
Darnell, a native of Festus, Mo., has won two races this season in three chances. Saturday, Darnell won the Saluki Invitational in Carbondale with a time of 18:21.14, one second better than her sixth-place finish at the EIU Walt Crawford Open two weeks earlier and seven seconds better than second-place finisher and teammate, Lacey Gibson. Darnell has notched top-10 finishes in all three meets this season, and in her two wins she has an average margin of victory of 8.5 seconds over second place.
Darnell and the Salukis return to action September 29 at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational in Chicago.
