CHICAGO -- The Southern Illinois men's and women's cross country squads will travel to Chicago for the 40th annual Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational on Saturday.
The meet -- hosted by Loyola University and held at Montrose Beach in Chicago -- will be expanded to two days for the first time in the history of the event. Elementary and middle school runners will race on Friday evening, with the high school and college portion scheduled to begin on Saturday morning.
Along with the Salukis and Ramblers, 50 teams will be present for the collegiate meet, including Big Ten schools Wisconsin and Purdue, in-state schools Northern Illinois, Illinois-Chicago and Chicago State, and Missouri Valley Conference foe Northern Iowa.
The Salukis look to continue their recent success after a dominating sweep at the Saluki Invitational on Setember 22. Sophomore Sadie Darnell has won two out of her last three races -- never finishing worse than sixth -- and junior Brian Dixon led a strong Saluki contingent last Saturday where Southern held spots two through 12 in the 8K to take the team win.
The women's 5K is set to start at 11:45 a.m. and the men's 8K is set for approximately 12:15 p.m.
