TERRE HAUTE, Ind. -- Saluki cross country will make the trek to Indiana State for its Pre-National Invitational on Saturday, a final tuneup for SIU before the Missouri Valley Conference championship on Nov. 2.

Southern will be among 161 teams in Terre Haute and will compete against 23 national top-30 schools in their respective races. The Saluki men will compete in the Blue 8K Race against nine nationally ranked teams (five in the top-10), and the Saluki women will square off against 14 ranked teams (four in the top-10) in the Blue 6K Race.

The Saluki women are coming off an impressive performance at the Notre Dame Invitational on Oct. 4 where they took their third consecutive meet title in 2013. SIU won the Gold 5K title after placing three runners in the top-10: Sadie Darnell (third), Kristen Levi (fourth) and Kelley Gallagher (tenth). Darnell, Gallagher and Levi have each not finished worse than 10th all season, and cumulatively they have an average finish of 3.8 in 2013 -- which includes two individual meet victories.

SIU's men's squad will face stiff competition for the second-straight week after they squared off against eight top-25 schools at Notre Dame in the Blue 8K race. Southern will once again look to the senior leadership of Zach Dahleen and Brian Dixon and to the Saluki junior trio of Juan Carrera, Oscar Medina and Nick Schrader to bolster its team score.

The men's Blue 8K Race begins at 11 a.m., and the women's Blue 6K Race will start at 11:40 a.m.
