ST. LOUIS -- Southern Illinois' cross country teams were both picked to finish in the top-three at this Saturday's State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Cross Country Championships in Normal, Ill., the Valley announced today.
The Saluki men received two first place votes, but were picked to finish second. The men have three of the top 8K times in the Missouri Valley this season, held by Zach Dahleen (third, 24:20), Brian Dixon (seventh, 24:37) and Nick Schrader (24:42). Overall, the Saluki men have won three out of four scored meets. Southern finished second only to No. 1-ranked Wisconsin on Sep. 29 at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational in Chicago.
The Saluki women were picked to tie for third place with Bradley, who received one first place vote. Sophomores Sadie Darnell and Lacey Gibson will likely lead the charge for Southern. Darnell has only finished worse than sixth once this season, and Gibson has posted two top-three finishes. The women have also claimed two team wins, with their worst finish only being sixth at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational (6th of 51)
