Named preseason all-MVC and MVC Scholar-Athlete...tabbed as Best Defensive Shortstop and Infielder with the Best Arm in Baseball America's MVC Preseason "Best Tools" section...started 57 games...hit .265 and ranked among the Salukis' top-three in triples (1st; 5), doubles (2nd; 13), runs batted in (3rd; 33), hits (3rd; 56) and runs (3rd; 34)...his five triples also tied for second in the Valley...hit three home runs, drew 15 walks and stole two bases...on the bump, he went 1-1 in 13 appearances, including two starts...struck out 27 batters to 14 walks in 29.1 innings...heated up at the plate toward the middle of the year, where he registered at least one hit in 18 of 20 games from Mar. 27 to Apr. 25...led the Salukis with 10 multiple-RBI games...also had 12 outings consisting of two or more hits...tied a career-best eight-game hitting streak over an eight-day span (Apr. 17-25)...hit .500 (7-for-14) with four runs, four RBI and two doubles in Creighton series (Apr. 23-25)...pounded out a season-high three hits on four occasions...went 2-for-4 with a home run, a double, one run scored and two RBI vs. Creighton (May 27) at the MVC Tournament...tied a career-high with five strikeouts in four innings against SE Missouri State on Mar. 23...only win on the mound came at Northern Iowa (May 22) after striking out four battes in three relief innings.
Led the Salukis with three triples, including two against league foes...hit .242 with 33 runs, 52 hits, nine doubles, two home runs and 18 RBI in 54 starts...served as one of SIU's closers posting a 1-0 record with a team-high four saves in 11 relief appearances...won only decision against Iowa on Mar. 9...hit .412 (7-for-17) with six runs, two doubles and three RBI in Bradley series (Apr. 11-13).
Named honorable mention Louisville Slugger Freshman All-American...one of three Salukis to start all 56 games...ranked fourth on the team in hitting with a .310 average...tied for second on the team in runs (38) and doubles (12)...pitching wise, he went 1-1 with eight strikeouts in 11.1 innings and earned one save.
Re-wrote the school record books at Springfield Lanphier High School...set new school marks in hits, doubles, triples, batting average and ERA...earned Central State 8 Conference Athlete-of-the-Year and Baseball Player-of-the-Year honors in 2001...two-time all-conference selection, and was named Lanphier High Male Athlete-of-the-Year as a senior...also named to the IBCA All-State Team and USSSA World Series All-Tournament Team...played basketball and golf as well.
