Tyler Lairson is in his first year working with the Saluki outfielders.

A native of Richmond, Ind., Lairson played the last four years at SIU.

Lairson capped his Saluki career by hitting .302 with 24 runs, 11 doubles, four home runs and 28 RBI in 2008. He was also named honorable mention all-Missouri Valley Conference and earned the team's Abe Martin Award.

In four years at Southern, Lairson hit .255 with 155 hits, 95 runs scored, 26 doubles, five triples, six home runs, 84 RBI and 15 stolen bases in 198 games and 170 starts.

After SIU, Lairson went on to play with the local Frontier League affiliate Southern Illinois Miners. In his debut with the Miners, Lairson went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI. His homer came in his second at-bat, giving Southern Illinois a 5-0 lead at the time.

Lairson is currently a double major in Financial Management and Marketing at SIU. He will serve as the head coach of the Richmond Riverhawks this summer.
