Made the team as a walk-on in the fall of 2004...was a two-sport athlete at Rend Lake College...is a mature young man with a tremendous work ethic.
2006: Went 1-0 with a 3.38 ERA in five relief appearances...struck out four in 5.1 innings of work...his lone win came against North Dakota State (4/9), where he struck out one and did not allow a hit or walk in 1.1 scoreless innings...struck out one in two innings in his only Valley appearance of the season against Evansville (5/14)...his two innings against the Aces tied a career-long.
2005: Went 1-0 in four relief appearances...posted five strikeouts in four innings and combined on one shutout...his only win was against Tennessee-Martin (Apr. 19), where he struck out three and walked one in a season-long two innings...also struck out two in one inning against Northern Illinois (Mar. 6)...SIU went 3-1 in games Garner pitched in.
Pre-SIU: Two-sport athlete in baseball and basketball at Rend Lake College...was an Academic All-American with a 3.8 GPA...received Scholar Athlete-of-the-Year Award in 2003-04...was named Mr. Hustle in basketball...graduated with Associate degrees in Arts and Science...four-time all-conference pick in basketball at Sesser High School...garnered all-conference honors, while helping his team to a pair of conference championships in baseball.
