CARBONDALE, Ill. - Southern Illinois University catcher Mark Kelly was named to this week's College Baseball Foundation National Honor Roll.

The sophomore backstop proved to be the biggest surprise in SIU's season-opening series at Stetson on Feb. 9-11.

A native of Hanover Park, Ill., Kelly more than doubled his batting average (.222) from a year ago when he hit a team-high .455 (5-for-11) with a run scored, double, four RBI, a .545 slugging percentage and a .538 on-base percentage in three starts.

He also had a pair of big hits early on in the series, including a two-RBI single in game one and a two-RBI double in game two.

Kelly makes the CBF's weekly National Honor Roll for the first time in his Saluki career.
