CARBONDALE, Ill. - Junior right-handed pitcher Cody Adams was ranked among the top-50 prospects in the nation in Baseball America's 2008 College Preview, released today. The national publication picked Southern Illinois University to finish second in the Missouri Valley Conference.

A native of Viola, Ill., Adams (48th) had the league's best fastball, topping out at 96 miles per hour in 2007. Baseball America projects him to be the Pitcher-of-the-Year and one of the top draft prospects in the MVC this season.

SIU was also mentioned as one of two possible 2008 NCAA Tournament teams out of the MVC, joining league favorite Wichita State.

Creighton, Northern Iowa, Missouri State, Evansville, Bradley, Indiana State and Illinois State close out the poll.

The Salukis, who return eight position starters and two starting pitchers, open their 2008 season with a four-game home series against Western Michigan, Feb. 22-24.
