ST. LOUIS – Senior infielder/outfielder Austin Montgomery has been selected Missouri Valley Conference Male Scholar-Athletes of the Week, Commissioner Doug Elgin announced. Montgomery was honored for his performances during the period of April 29-May 5.

Now in its 14th year of existence, The Valley’s Scholar-Athlete program honors its student-athletes for their athletic performance for a one-week period and academic success in the classroom.

Montgomery hit .565 and drove in 10 runs in five games for the Salukis last week. He recorded three three-hit games and two two-hit games. At Illinois on Tuesday, Montgomery hit a two-run homer and matched a season high when he drove in four runs. At Purdue he drove in two runs on Saturday night and followed that up by driving in three more on Sunday. For the week, he had 20 total bases including two doubles, a triple and his conference-leading seventh home run. Montgomery holds a 3.47 grade-point average in mechanical engineering.

To qualify for Missouri Valley Conference Scholar-Athlete of the Week laurels, student-athletes must carry a cumulative grade-point average of 3.20, completed at least one academic year at a Valley institution and must be at least a sophomore in academic standing.

This marks the third time this season that Montgomery has earned MVC Scholar-Athlete honors.
